On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Moonee Valley Council hosted its National Tree Day event at the Afton Street Conservation Reserve, where Programmed participated and assisted with the event. Community members came together to plant 6,000 indigenous plants as part of the council’s ambitious “30% by 2040” tree canopy goal. The day wasn’t just about planting, it featured fun activities, a free BBQ, and giveaways of native seedlings for residents to take home, making it a true celebration of sustainability and community spirit.

A Collaborative Effort
This success was made possible through strong partnerships. Programmed worked hand-in-hand with ASG Civil & Industrial, Melbourne Water, and Moonee Valley Council to prepare the site and ensure everything ran smoothly. From reinstating the access track from the car park to creating a new pedestrian pathway within the reserve, every detail was carefully planned to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees. The work zone was tidied beautifully, setting the stage for a successful day of planting.
One partner shared: “Thanks to your efforts, we were able to host a successful event which is a testament to your excellent planning and execution.”
Leadership in Action
A special shout-out goes to Jamie Coutlemanis, our Programmed graduate engineer, who led this project under supervision as part of our Contestable Capital Delivery team. Jamie’s leadership and commitment were instrumental in achieving a positive outcome, an example of how we nurture talent and empower future leaders.
Positive Feedback and Shared Success
Another stakeholder commented: “The collaboration across the board is being recognised, which is a credit to both teams.”
This project is a shining example of what can be achieved when organisations work together toward a common goal: creating sustainable, thriving environments for our communities.
Looking Ahead
With the trees now planted and the rain arriving just in time, the Afton Street Conservation Reserve is set to flourish. We’re proud to have played a part in this initiative and look forward to seeing the long-term benefits for local biodiversity and the community.
