Programmed has partnered once again with ACT Police to collect presents for the Kids in Care Appeal. So many of the businesses from our partnerships with Housing ACT and the Emergency Services Agency (ESA) in Canberra gave from their hearts and delivered many wonderful presents for kids and young people. When thanking one contractor, they said, “We really love giving to this cause and supporting the young people”.
Kids in Care is a fundraiser whose purpose is to advance social and public welfare by providing support without discrimination to any at-risk children and those living in poverty within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) or neighboring regions of New South Wales (NSW).
Gregory Lackey, Social Inclusion Manager and Danny O’Mara, Programmed Facility Management Contract Manager, attended the Kids in Care present handover to Care and Protection at the Icon Water head Office in Mitchell ACT.
The Kids in Care Appeal started in 2013 when a Canberra police officer was involved with a family with four kids that had a tattered Christmas tree with no presents; back at the police station, Detective Sergeant John Giles decided to ask for donations from colleagues and others to buy some gifts for the children and ended up receiving a generous response meaning there were more presents that could be donated to others in care beyond the initial family. This only grew year-on-year with many businesses coming on board and now over 1,000 children will receive a gift of their choice, as well as stocking fillers.
Programmed is proud to support such a worthy cause and thanks all the businesses, Housing ACT Staff, Emergency Services Agency staff, Programmed staff, and others that donated this year. Christmas is a magical time for children, and this appeal brings that magic alive to so many kids in care.
