Programmed’s Employment Services Innovative Collaboration with Hilton Foods Australia

Mar 26, 2025

At Programmed, we’re all about creating opportunities that not only change lives but also strengthen businesses. Our recent collaboration with Hilton Foods Australia is a shining example of this mission, showcasing how tailored training programs can enhance workplace retention and pave the way for long-term employment success.

This two-week program, based in Bunbury, WA, was designed to empower candidates—many of whom were facing significant social, economic, or physical challenges—with the skills and qualifications they needed to thrive in the workplace. By focusing on essential warehouse skills and forklift training, we provided nationally recognised certifications that made our candidates job-ready before they even stepped foot in their new roles at Hilton Foods.

Collaboration was key to the success of this program. We teamed up with Nara Training, a registered training organisation (RTO), to deliver the first week of training. In week two, our own RTO Melbourne team took over, conducting on-site verification of competency (VOC) assessments to ensure a seamless transition to the workplace.

Workforce Australia and Disability Employment Services (DES) providers played a critical role in helping us identify and select the right candidates. Our Bunbury branch ensured smooth recruitment, onboarding, and mobilisation, ensuring the program ran efficiently from start to finish. Additionally, our National Account Manager joined the training in week one, connecting directly with candidates to answer their questions about the program and their future roles.

Of course, we cannot forget to mention Paddy, the emotional support dog, who provided much-needed comfort throughout the program. Paddy’s presence was a small but significant part of making the candidates feel more at ease during their learning journey, helping to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

The results speak for themselves. Of the 10 candidates who began the program, we successfully placed 7 into roles with Hilton Foods, and 100% of those who completed the program were employed. This success has led Hilton Foods to commit to three additional projects, with the potential to expand this model nationwide.

This project is a fantastic example of how effective collaboration—both internally and externally—can lead to real, sustainable outcomes. Not only did the candidates gain valuable skills, but they also transitioned into stable, long-term employment, benefitting both them and the employer.
