For Mark Potter, Branch Manager at Programmed Property Services in Tasmania, ANZAC Day is more than a national commemoration — it’s deeply personal.
From a young age, Mark’s family instilled in him a sense of respect and responsibility for those who served. He remembers vividly attending his first family gathering at a war grave, placing a plaque in honour of his grandfathers, both of whom served in World War II.
Leading with Respect and Example
Today, Mark leads the Hobart team, who cares for some of Tasmania’s most sacred sites, including Hobart War Graves, defence facilities, and the Shrine of Remembrance. For him, maintaining these locations isn’t just about landscaping or civil works, it’s about preserving history and honouring personal stories like his own.
Mark believes in leading by example. Each year, he brings his children to place poppies and pay tribute, showing them how to respect the sacrifices made by past generations. His dedication goes beyond personal tradition; it inspires his team to approach their work with the same pride and reverence.
Preserving Memorial and Historic Sites
Under Mark’s guidance, the Programmed Open Space team ensures these sites are impeccably maintained — headstones cleaned, grounds pristine, and memorials preserved —so visitors can reflect and remember in dignity.
“Every detail matters,” Mark says. “We’re not just maintaining sites; we’re preserving history and supporting the community in their acts of remembrance.”
A Story That Reminds Us
