Mick Eliades takes home the Mark Storti Award for Safety at the Melbourne Airport Excellence Awards 2024

Nov 18, 2024

At Programmed, our people have safety front of mind in everything we do, every day. Guided by Personal Safety Leadership, we ensure the wellbeing of our customers, the public, and ourselves. We are proud to announce that Michael Eliades (Mick), a Handyperson at Programmed Facility Management, won the Mark Storti Award for Safety at the Melbourne Airport Excellence Awards 2024. This award epitomises Melbourne Airport’s non-negotiable commitment to workplace safety, with the winner exemplifying safety leadership for travellers, visitors, and the entire airport community.

Driven by an admirable authenticity, Mick’s passion for safety and wellbeing has been continually demonstrated through his active engagement with his team members and the wider community.

He is always accountable, taking responsibility in situations that many would choose to avoid, managing risk before approaching hazardous situations, and bringing genuine concern and dignity to those impacted and vulnerable.

Passionate about safety, above and beyond:

2023 was a particularly impactful time for Mick, as he took initiative to step in and assist with two major emergencies. In September, Mick sprang into action when he spotted a car emitting smoke, teaming up with a colleague to extinguish the fire. Then, in November, he expertly managed traffic after witnessing a pedestrian accident, ensuring everyone’s safety until authorities arrived. His adept handling of these emergencies left the authorities in awe of his traffic management skills in such a challenging environment.

An outstanding example of Personal Safety Leadership we can all look up to

Mick embodies Personal Safety Leadership, setting a standard we all aspire to. He’s the first to jump into action, whether it’s assisting airport travelers, supporting colleagues, or helping his local community. While his quick thinking has averted serious emergencies, Mick is equally at home at team BBQs, delighting everyone with his Greek family recipes. His infectious humor and dedication to Programmed’s ‘Work and Smile’ ethos make him a beloved team member. Mick’s passion and empathy inspire us all, and this well-deserved award is a testament to his immense contribution to our Programmed community. Congratulations, Mick!
