NETTS Apprentices Give Back at the Foodbank WA Kitchen

Sep 4, 2025

At NETTS, we believe in developing not only the technical skills of our apprentices but also their sense of teamwork, compassion, and community. This week, our first-year apprentices had the opportunity to put those values into practice by volunteering at the Foodbank WA kitchen.

From the moment they arrived, the apprentices were welcomed by Head Chef Melissa, whose energy and passion set the tone for the day. Melissa shared the incredible impact Foodbank has across Western Australia and guided the team through their volunteering shift with encouragement and care.

Rolling up their sleeves, the apprentices prepared and packaged more than 600 nourishing meals: ranging from lamb hocks and beef ragu to crumbed chicken with mashed potatoes. Every dish was made with love, destined for families and individuals experiencing hardship.

For our apprentices, the experience was more than just a day in the kitchen. It was a lesson in teamwork, empathy, and the power of giving back. They saw firsthand how small acts of kindness can ripple through a community, creating real change where it’s needed most.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Head Chef Melissa and the entire Foodbank WA team for welcoming our apprentices and showing the impact of community-driven work.

At NETTS, our apprenticeship programs are about more than skills and qualifications. They’re about shaping the leaders of tomorrow who understand the importance of connection, compassion, and community.
