PRA’s NAIDOC Week celebrations

Sep 10, 2019

This year’s NAIDOC week celebration event at the Perth Region Alliance’s Canning Vale depot was a great success.

The event on 11 July was a celebration of this year’s theme – Voice, Treaty, Truth, with over 100 employees attending.

Special moments included the acknowledgement of traditional ownership by Tahlia, one of the younger artists from Acacia Cultural Designs. We were also fortunate to hear personal thoughts from Nathan Bann, Perth Region Alliance monitoring and evaluation planning coordinator who spoke about his Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and what NAIDOC means to him.

NAIDOC Week at PRA

The team were privileged to host artists from Acacia Cultural Designs, who created the sand art mural which will stay with us for as long as the elements allow.

The occasion was also an opportunity to unveil a piece of art, created for PRA by Graham and Rhonda Taylor. This will become a lasting visual focus across our three depots to pay tribute to the rich heritage and influence that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture have on our past, present and future.
