A morning on Country
The day began with a Welcome to Country from Willie Pepper of the Boon Wurrung Land and Sea Council, who generously shared his knowledge of the land before we picked up our tools.
Greenfleet CEO Wayne Wescott then walked us through the story of the Strzelecki Nature Link, a project that’s steadily restoring native forest across four adjoining properties in South Gippsland.
It’s easy to underestimate what a few hundred seedlings can do. But this project is part of something much bigger: a 3.5-kilometre stretch of contiguous koala habitat, home to the genetically significant Strzelecki koala, along with parrots, gliders, and countless other native species. Our team planted mountain ash, blue gum, messmate stringybark and blackwood, species chosen specifically to rebuild this ecosystem from the ground up.
Why this matters to us
This wasn’t just about planting trees. It was about rolling up our sleeves and contributing to something bigger. At Programmed, we believe creating a more sustainable future requires action, collaboration and a commitment to continuous improvement. Our tree planting day provided an opportunity to make a tangible contribution to the environment, helping restore local habitats, support biodiversity and strengthen the resilience of these ecosystems for generations to come.
Greenfleet is a great example of an organisation our Sustainability Team is exploring as a potential carbon offsetting partner for emissions that are more challenging to reduce, such as those associated with parts of our fleet, including trucks and buses. Spending the day on-site gave us a firsthand look at the environmental impact that partnerships like this can create and reinforced the importance of investing in nature-based solutions.
It also speaks to one of our core values: caring for the communities we operate in, not just through the work we deliver, but through the relationships we build. Our community commitment has always been about investing in the places and people around us, and long-term partnerships like this one with Greenfleet are exactly how we bring that to life.
