Skin Checks Made Simple: How Programmed is Protecting Outdoor Teams

Aug 27, 2025

At Programmed, we help our customers get the job done right every day. For many of our team members, that means working outdoors under the Australian sun. We are proud to now be part of #ThrowShade, an initiative led by Shade Skin Cancer Medicine that makes skin checks more accessible and promotes long-term skin health in Western Australia.

A Practical Step Toward Prevention

Australia has some of the highest UV levels in the world, and skin cancer is one of our most common but preventable health issues. That’s why we’re partnering with Shade Skin to support our Western Australian field staff and outdoor maintenance crews by offering access to bulk billed, full-body skin checks.

Through this initiative, we are addressing three key barriers that often prevent people from booking a skin check:

– Time: with convenient booking and flexible appointment options
– Cost: with no out-of-pocket fees for eligible Programmed employees
– Awareness: by embedding the importance of skin checks into our health and safety culture

Living Our Values

At Programmed, our values guide everything we do. We act with care and empathy, show respect, and empower our people to achieve their best. Encouraging regular skin checks is a natural extension of these principles. It reflects our commitment to safety, wellbeing and community, ensuring our teams have the knowledge and resources they need to protect their health.

Our culture is built on looking out for one another. Whether it’s supporting each other on the job, celebrating achievements or making time for health and wellbeing, we know our people are the foundation of our success. By making skin checks part of that culture, we are reinforcing that safety extends beyond the workplace.

Support That Extends to Families

Through our Programmed Advantage benefits program, Shade Skin are also offering a $25 discount on full skin checks for all Programmed employees and their partners in Western Australia. This makes it easier for our people and their loved ones to access preventative care and take an active role in protecting their long-term health.

Why It Matters

For those working in the sun every day, sun safety is not just a seasonal concern. It is a year-round responsibility. Regular skin checks can detect concerns early, when they are most treatable, and encourage proactive steps to prevent future issues.

Joining the #ThrowShade initiative reflects our focus on protecting our teams and ensuring they have the resources to stay safe and healthy year-round.
