The recent refurbishment of the Geordie Bay units on Wadjemup Rottnest Island marks a major milestone in quality facility upgrades, expertly managed by Programmed Facility Management (PFM) on behalf of the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA). Awarded in early 2024, this project transformed 51 two- and three-bedroom units to a fresh, modern standard, delivering an improved guest experience just in time for the start of the school holiday season on 18 September 2024.
Over a concentrated six-month period, more than 60 tradespeople collaborated efficiently, completing each unit’s refurbishment in a swift three-day turnaround. The scope of work involved a full interior overhaul, replacing all kitchen and bathroom fixtures, floors, wiring, and plumbing, as well as comprehensive painting inside and out. Enhanced safety features, including new fencing and mulched grounds, completed the upgrade. Notably, the team maintained a zero lost-time injury (LTI) record, a testament to their professionalism and commitment to safety.
The RIA has expressed high satisfaction with the quality and value of the project. As PFM moves through the final stages of project review and variations, lessons learned will contribute to continuous improvements in future work.

Housekeeping Excellence
Complementing the refurbishment, the housekeeping team has upheld an exceptional service record, consistently meeting 15 key performance indicators (KPIs) over the past five months. This accomplishment highlights their dedication to delivering quality and positive guest experiences. New team members undergo enhanced training to meet RIA’s high standards, a commitment set to continue as visitor numbers rise to near-record levels, expected to reach approximately 850,000 this summer. The housekeeping team is well-prepared to meet the season’s demands, maintaining cleanliness and comfort for every guest.
The Geordie Bay refurbishment project and the ongoing housekeeping excellence reflect Programmed’s dedication to enhancing guest experiences on Rottnest Island, setting a high standard of care and quality.
