Originally, Coates Hire had engaged Programmed to implement a national rollout of the exterior rebrand of its branches before they embarked on the internal redesign. This exterior rebrand included commercial painting services and a variety of signage solutions involving more than 170 stores nationwide.
Following the successful completion of the external rebrand rollout, Programmed was appointed to implement the retail fitout as well. This decision was based on the knowledge that we had the capability to design their new retail fitout and also implement the project nationally – from all aspects of manufacture through to final installation.
To begin with, Programmed carried out close discussions with Coates Hire personnel to develop a thorough understanding of objectives and requirements. A delivery structure was established, labour resources made available, and one point of contact for the duration of the project assigned.
Subsequently, a survey of all current stores and a SWOT analysis was carried out to develop early concepts for the retail fitout. These concepts were refined and developed in response to market research, ensuring accurate alignment with Coates Hires’ customer preferences and expectations. Once the ‘winning’ concept was identified, Programmed developed an initial brand manual to outline general guidelines for the implementation of the new concept.
With these new guidelines in mind, and in consultation with Coates Hire, Programmed developed prototype stores. After a ‘test period’ and final refinement and evaluation, the retail fitout was ready to be rolled out on a national basis.
Coates Hire are very satisfied with the new look, especially since they were able to ensure the retail fitout concept is as close to their customers’ expectations as possible prior to the capital investment. This new look has now been rolled out to all of their stores and so far has been very well received.
