Maintaining a casual workforce for local project

Mount Gambier, SA

Programmed’s Mount Gambier branch partnered with a local customer to develop the largest construction project in the town for many years – the Mount Gambier Marketplace. This houses a Big W, Woolworths, Masters home improvement store and 30 other speciality shops.

Our customer, a national construction company, needed people quickly – and so Programmed was called on to supply skilled workers, often at very short notice. Programmed managed our customer’s requirements by drawing on existing employees from the local area, while proactively identifying other suitable employees for the project who were working on other local projects that were coming to an end. Current employees were also asked to refer friends for employment. This provided us with adequate and ongoing employees in order to continue to meet our customer’s labour requirements. Employee hours were relatively ad hoc, with some labourers required to work 1-2 days, then come back 3 weeks later for a week. The availability of Programmed’s on call pre-qualified employees was critical to supplying our customer with workers effectively.

A combination of Programmed’s robust recruitment and assessment methodology, as well as providing candidates with a realistic job preview, ensured our employees stayed on and completed their assignments on this significant project for the town.

Over the course of the project, Programmed provided 20 employees (18 labourers and 2 administrators). The relationship we developed with our customer was built on trust, and the customer quickly held that Programmed people were reliable and experienced, and could add considerable value to the outcome of large construction projects.
