In collaboration with Uniting Care Kippax and the ACT Education Directorate, last month, Programmed was able to launch the Education Trade Workshop Pilot program at Lake Tuggeranong College. This innovative program is designed to create and enhance vocational pathways for specific student groups.
Focused on practical skills, the workshop aims to guide participants towards careers in the construction industry. MEGT, a key partner in the program, provides valuable insights into Australian School-Based Apprenticeships (ASBAs) and full apprenticeships, assisting with the process of engaging apprentices and trainees.
Participants in the program acquire hands-on skills such as wall plastering, fly screen repair, and fixing loose kitchen cabinet doors. Industry experts, including licensed electricians and plumbers, share valuable knowledge about vocational opportunities.
Reaching diverse student populations across ACT colleges, including those with disabilities, disengaged individuals, and non-traditional students. Through collaborations with Feros Care and ADACAS, we ensure that teaching methods are tailored to meet the needs of the disability sector.
Additionally, we aim to have a mental health component in the program to ensure students know what services are available if required in whatever career they may choose. To do this Programmed has partnered with Headspace who will attend future programs. Looking towards the future, we are excited to announce four upcoming sessions at Erindale College, beginning in July 2024, with more workshops to follow.
