Listening, Learning, and Walking Together: Programmed’s Journey of Reconciliation

Jul 7, 2025

At Programmed, we believe that reconciliation is more than a plan — it's action, commitment, and a shared journey. And that journey officially begins with the launch of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

This NAIDOC Week, we are proud to take a meaningful step forward by launching Programmed Facility Management’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

NAIDOC Week is a time for all to celebrate the rich history, culture, and achievements of First Nations peoples. It’s also an opportunity to reflect on how we can contribute to reconciliation in our everyday lives and workplaces.

At Programmed, we believe that reconciliation is more than a plan — it’s action, commitment, and a shared journey. And that journey officially begins with the launch of our RAP.

What is a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)?
A RAP is a strategic framework that supports organisations in developing respectful relationships and creating meaningful opportunities with First Nations peoples. For us, it’s about turning good intentions into real, measurable actions that drive change. Programmed’s RAP outlines the steps we will take over the next two years to embed reconciliation into our way of working—across our people, policies, partnerships, and practices.

Our Journey So Far
In February 2023, Programmed Facility Management established a RAP Working Group comprising nine dedicated employees from across the business. This diverse team collaborated to shape a plan that reflects our values, acknowledges our responsibilities, and identifies how we can contribute to a more inclusive future.

In July 2024, we were proud to receive formal endorsement from Reconciliation Australia, a key milestone that affirms our commitment and sets us on the path toward action.

🎥 Bringing the RAP to Life
The first key step to bringing our RAP to life was through education. It’s to educate our teams across the business about what it is, what it entails, and how each individual can be part of the reconciliation journey. We’ve created a film to share the purpose behind our RAP and how everyone can be part of the journey.

A huge shoutout and thank you to Muru Office Supplies, one of our long-term partners; IndigiGrow, a fantastic organisation Muru proudly supports; and Willum Warrain, a valued community we’re honoured to engage with on the Mornington Peninsula. We look forward to sharing more about our partnerships with these incredible organisations, and how you can get involved too.

To ensure our RAP is visible and meaningful for our employees, we’ve rolled out several initiatives, including:

Milestone Walls

Dedicated spaces in our head offices will track our progress and highlight key achievements in our reconciliation journey. These milestone walls are designed to encourage visibility, accountability, and inspiration across the business.

Official Document

Digital copies have been shared across Programmed, and hard copies of the RAP will be made available at our head offices.

Why It Matters
Reconciliation is about building respectful relationships between First Nations peoples and the broader Australian community. At Programmed, we see this as both a responsibility and a privilege.

Through our RAP, we are committed to:
1) Relationships – We are committed to building meaningful partnerships with First Nations stakeholders—listening, learning, and working together.

2) Respect – We recognise the deep histories, knowledge, and rights of First Nations peoples through cultural learning and meaningful action.

3) Opportunities – We’re committed to increasing employment and career development opportunities for First Nations peoples, providing apprenticeships and traineeships that create lasting change.

Our RAP launch is just the beginning. In the months ahead, we’ll be sharing more stories, initiatives, and opportunities for everyone to get involved. Together, let’s walk forward with respect, curiosity, and a shared commitment to lasting change.
