Programmed joins the Wadjemup Rottnest Island Wirin Bidi Exhibition at Wadjemup Museum

Nov 14, 2024

Programmed was honoured to attend the opening of the Wirin Bidi Exhibition at Wadjemup Museum on Wadjemup Rottnest Island. Hosted by the Rottnest Island Authority, this event offered us a profound opportunity to engage with the Wadjemup Project—a journey of truth, remembrance, and cultural awareness.

The Wadjemup Wirin Bidi (Wadjemup Spiritual Journey) exhibition powerfully recounts the stories of the Island’s Aboriginal prisoners, their families, and the ongoing efforts to honour their legacies through the Wadjemup Project. Through a series of evocative exhibits, attendees gain insight into the impacts of Island’s history and the significance of remembrance and healing.

The day included a moving smoking ceremony, accompanied by the sounds of a didgeridoo and traditional dancing, fostering a space for reflection and connection. We’re grateful to have shared this important cultural experience and to deepen our understanding of Wadjemup’s history.
