Korowa is an independent Anglican girls’ school located in the Melbourne suburb of Glen Iris. Since its foundation in 1890, Korowa has been consistently recognised for its all-round excellence. The school focuses on each individual student, seeking to create an environment in which all students are encouraged, challenged and inspired to reach their full potential.
Project Description
Korowa’s Early Learning Centre (ELC) wanted to increase enrollments, but were faced with the challenge of an outdated and undersized facility. The ELC needed to be both expanded and refurbished to allow the school to reach their enrolment goals. They also wanted to provide an improved learning environment that would be more pleasant and stimulating for pupils.
Project Solution
Programmed successfully tendered for the school’s Early Learning Centre’s refurbishment and expansion. The project brief required the demolition of the existing structure and floor space with an extensive refit including flooring, glazing, joinery, plumbing and electrical work.
There was a tight timeframe of just two months during the Christmas break for completion. In addition, during the project’s early excavations, the team located additional underground services (fire service, gas and water mains) that had not been marked on the plans. Unexpected torrential rains in the lead-up to Christmas were further challenges the Programmed team had to overcome.
Project Outcome
Programmed put in mammoth effort and successfully overcame the various issues we encountered to ensure the building was ready in line with the stipulated deadline. The school was very happy with the result. The building is now operational with both staff and students alike relishing the modern, spacious learning environment that has been created. Enrolments have also increased in line with the school’s aspirations.
