Our Customer
One of only 41 Park Hyatt Hotels in the world and just one of three in Australia, Park Hyatt Melbourne is a 5-star hotel offering exclusive and luxurious accommodation. Surrounded by century-old elm trees whilst overlooking St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Fitzroy Gardens, the hotel is a private haven in the middle of a cosmopolitan CBD.
Project Description
Park Hyatt Melbourne felt that it was important to maintain an appearance that matched its uncompromising attention to detail, superior accommodation facilities and outstanding customer service. As the hotel’s building and tower exteriors were starting to look dull the result of weather and the build-up of dirt, debris and cobwebs over the years, Park Hyatt Melbourne decided upon a thorough wash and repaint to reinstate the presentation of the hotel, as befitting its luxury positioning. It would be a timely upgrade that would coincide with the installation of new signage as part of a global rebrand.
Project Solution and Outcome
In order to ensure the hotel retained a first class presentation consistent with Park Hyatt’s premium branding, Programmed conducted a full exterior building audit which formed the basis of works planning and programming for a subsequent complete exterior restoration.
To prepare and repaint the 240 guestroom hotel, which towers at 51.94 metres high and 14 floors, Programmed deployed our expert team of abseil painters to safely access, wash and paint each elevation in two top coats of Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen. The choice of paint was handpicked to ensure long-term UV protection as well as a smooth and durable surface able to repel the dirt, debris, smog and pollution of the inner city.
Scheduling work around weather conditions and effective co-ordination with the hotel manager were main priorities for Programmed. The communication between Programmed and hotel management was in fact vital in enabling Park Hyatt to maintain its exceptional customer service. This kept guests notified of when painters might be working in front of room windows and ensured they were not caught off guard as painters abseiled their way down the sides of the buildings. This was key to the hotel’s need to maintain guest privacy and comfort at all times.
A total of six high-rise elevations were washed and repainted to ensure one of Melbourne’s finest hotels retained its impressive external appearance.
In helping Park Hyatt Melbourne achieve its site and brand refresh, combining both the paintwork and new sky signage into just one project enabled de the hotel added value in terms of safety, as well as cost and time efficiency. The professional finish of the painted exteriors and the key choice of paint will help the hotel to keep projecting a striking appearance while keeping deterioration at bay.
The hotel continues to be a key part of the Melbourne city skyline and its high standard of presentation undoubtedly makes it a stand out.
Project completion presented Programmed with a fantastic opportunity being awarded with a High Distinction at the 2018 Master Painters Awards for Excellence in the Commercial Repaint category.
