July 28, 2024, is National Tree Planting Day, and our Programmed Facility Management team working on the South East Water partnership celebrated this day by helping to plant over 650 native plants.
To mark the occasion, the Citizen Science Crew, along with Tyabb Railway Primary School, organised a planting event at Devilbend Natural Features Reserve (Daangean in Bunurong), a previous Melbourne Water water-storage reservoir, now managed by Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water combined.
Significant preparations were required to ensure the day’s success. The Citizen Science Crew and Programmed team worked behind the scenes, digging holes and laying out plants for the volunteers. Despite the challenging weather, their efforts were crucial in making the tree planting day a great success.
Melbourne Water, who handles Parks Victoria, cleared the planting area and organised subcontractors to bring in machinery to remove blackberries and cut the grass. Melbourne Water generously donated plant guards and stakes, while the local Aboriginal-owned Bush Nursery at Willum Warrain provided the tube stocks.
In addition to the volunteers, Aaron Simmler, the President of Willum Warrain and Programmed Pressure Supervisor, also joined us and lent a hand.
