Our Customer
Established in 2001, St Andrew’s Catholic College is located in Redlynch, a major growth corridor of Cairns and teaches over 1500 students from Prep to Year 12. The school is situated in the Freshwater Creek Valley, a fertile flat, and backs on to the Barron Gorge National Park.
Project Description
St Andrew’s Catholic College boasts modern facilities, with the buildings designed to enhance the surrounding natural environment. The buildings in the school have been grouped in clusters to provide for the needs of junior, middle and senior years.
In the past decade, Programmed Property Service was engaged for various projects, initially starting with a repaint of the Junior, Middle and Senior school blocks into their four “house colours”. Later down the track, Programmed also upgraded the school’s wayfinding signage with our eCore signage system.
More recently, paintwork to some of the higher areas of the school, not covered under the existing maintenance programme, was starting to fade and show signs of wear and tear. The College entered into a Rollover of the existing contract to prepare and repaint the higher areas to the College as well as the internal walls of the Admin building and the Drama room, whilst continuing the annual maintenance works.
St Andrew’s Catholic College has additionally engaged Programmed’s building projects team to install two new offices in the staff common area, with both new air-conditioning and electrical systems required. A classroom also needed to be divided into two, in order to cater for additional I.T. teaching needs.
Programmed, with its bespoke experience in painting, refurbishment, electrical works and signage, was ideally placed to provide this range of services, and provide the school the convenience of streamlined supply.
Project Solution
Programmed was already a trusted partner with our existing relationship, providing ongoing reactive maintenance works when required.
All work also needed to be completed within the summer school holidays.
Programmed’s dedicated Cairns team swung into action. With six team members, comprised of three to four different trades, they worked throughout the summer holidays to ensure all works were completed in time to welcome the students when they returned the following year.
An underlying primer was used before applying two coats of premium quality Dulux paint on all surfaces. The middle school buildings were painted in the school’s house colours, red, green, yellow and blue.
All colourbond wall panelling was washed under high pressure to ensure buildings stayed in first-class condition during the entire programme. Consistent maintenance as part of the ongoing program will extend the life of the paintwork, prevent deterioration and eliminate extensive preparation prior to any subsequent repaint.
Programmed further installed two new offices in the staff common area, with new air-conditioning, electrical wiring, and a fresh coat of paint. For a modern and more open feel, these offices have glass viewing panels on the staff room side.
Project Outcome
Programmed’s professionalism and integrity, our ability to meet and exceed customer expectations, and capacity to carry out multiple projects concurrently across the school, led to the existing contract being rolled over into a new expanded contract this year.
The school is additionally engaging Programmed’s building maintenance team in plans to divide the I.T. teaching classrooms Y 6 and Y7 into two teaching areas to better utilise the space.
“I am very happy with all that Programmed have done for us over the years, as well as the high-quality outcomes, often at short notice” – David Meyer, Business Manager, St Andrew’s Catholic College
