As a healthcare company, Medibank is dedicated to improving the health for everyone in Australia. Staff members at Medibank are no exception in the company’s latest endeavours to promote a healthy workplace. Moving from the conventional Activity Based Working and shaping a culture of better health outcomes for its staff and employees, Medibank decided to shift towards a Health Based Working system.
Medibank’s new head office ‘Thrive’ offers its employees real freedom over where and how they work. Work settings range from collaborative spaces and quiet indoor rooms to stand and work areas as well as wifi-enabled balconies. One can imagine the important role audio visual technology plays in the creation of this living, breathable workspace and that is where Programmed Electrical Technologies come in.
Based on the specification by Norman Disney and Young, our work included detailed engineering, equipment supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of the audio visual systems throughout the Medibank headquarters.
The new building at 720 Bourke St in Docklands which houses Medibank was designed as a sustainable property. Constructed by Brookfield Multiplex, the building achieves the maximum six star Green Star sustainability and 5 star NABERS energy efficiency ratings. The audio visual design and installation was carried out in compliance with its sustainability objectives.
Systems in the audio visual fit out component included:
- 150 AV equipped spaces in total
- 75 meeting rooms with presentation facilities
- 50 collaborative work areas
- 11 staff hubs
- 5 video conferencing equipped spaces
- Wayfinding displays and kiosks
- 75 room booking displays
- High quality boardroom
- Demonstration kitchen
- “Vision Centre” public area with several video walls and interactive displays
- 20 special purpose, training, dining and linkable spaces
The outcome was a complete success. This project was awarded the best voice/data project at the 2015 NECA (VIC) Awards for Excellence and was also awarded Crestron Electronics’ Commercial Project of the Year in 2014. Our relationship with Medibank now continues with the provision of an ongoing maintenance solution for the installation.
