At Programmed, we're proud to recognise the initiative our teams bring to work every day. Innovation doesn't always come from big, sweeping changes — often it's the practical, on-the-ground ideas from our people that make the biggest difference to safety, efficiency, and how we work.
A Growing Culture of Innovation
We recently held our second Continuous Improvement Awards session at our South East Water contract, celebrating 12 improvement submissions received throughout July. What makes this program so special is where the ideas come from — apprentices, trade staff, and management across the business all contributed, reflecting a culture where everyone's voice counts.
July's Award Winner: Jason Marshall
Congratulations to Jason Marshall, E&I Technician, who was recognised as the July Continuous Improvement Award winner.
Jason's idea improves the safe retrieval of level monitors from sewer wet wells by using lifting rings, allowing equipment to be removed via crane and hook. This simple but effective solution reduces manual handling, working at heights risks, and the potential for needle stick injuries — a genuine win for both safety and efficiency.
Even better, a prototype has already been developed and received positive feedback from technicians, demonstrating how practical ideas can quickly progress into real-world solutions.
Other Outstanding Submissions
We'd also like to acknowledge two other standout ideas from this round:
SCADA access for technicians – improving fault-finding and giving staff access to real-time operational data.
Asset work history access for field staff – supporting faster diagnostics, better decision-making, and reduced downtime.
