Breaking Ground: Seli Mailangi Becomes First Female Apprentice at Sydney Airport

Aug 19, 2025

In March 2025, Seli Mailangi became the first female apprentice at Sydney Airport, starting her career with Programmed in electrical maintenance.

Bringing with her a strong Islander heritage and fresh perspective to the team, Seli is already making a meaningful impact. Working alongside mentor James Wong, an experienced electrician guiding her through hands-on learning in a fast-paced environment.

🤝 Our Work at Sydney Airport

Programmed has proudly supported Sydney Airport for years, delivering 24/7 facilities management, asset maintenance, and engineering services. In 2025, our ongoing work was recognised when the contract was recommended for ISO55001 Asset Management System certification, a testament to our team’s commitment to performance, reliability, and safety.

🌱 Representation That Powers the Future

Seli’s arrival marks a powerful step forward in growing gender and cultural representation in the trades – and we couldn’t be more excited to support her journey.

Her story reflects the values that drive us: creating real opportunities, fostering diverse talent, and building stronger teams for the future.

We’re committed to creating more pathways like this – building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
