New Community Sports Hub Showcases Latest FM

Oct 5, 2017

One of Melbourne’s fastest growing councils, City of Casey, has recently launched a new community sports hub that showcases modern, sustainable design.

Contracted to manage the design and construction of all council buildings, Programmed led the project management of the Casey Indoor Leisure Centre. The three-year project was completed in early August and comprised a 16,000 square metre expansion of the existing facility to provide the community with a modern sporting hub.

  • The project, mainly funded by Council with a $650,000 contribution from the Victorian Government, included:
  • Five new courts, including a premiere show court, bringing the total number of courts to 10
  • Spectator seating for 1,500 people
  • Multi-purpose/function room
  • New foyer and entrance
  • Upgraded and additional car parking
  • Café/piazza
  • New change rooms and toilets

City of Casey Cr Sam Aziz said the redevelopment has delivered a state-of-the-art facility where the community can enjoy a wide range of sport, recreation and leisure activities.
“This much-needed redevelopment will help the local netball and basketball associations cater for growing demand, as well as continue to build strong pathways from beginner to representative levels and attract the highest level of competition to Casey.”

Programmed oversaw the construction process, managing the sub-contractors to ensure safety was paramount throughout the process. When the highest points of the building needed to be accessed, a helicopter was used instead of conventional cranes to make it safer for the on-site crew to complete those works. With energy saving features always an important consideration for councils, Programmed selected sustainable cladding for the building to help minimise energy usage and potential costs.

The Council has now commenced stage two of the redevelopment at Casey Stadium that will include establishing a purpose-built regional gymnastics space and multi indoor sports facility including cricket courts and training lanes. Programmed will be delivering the Architectural Design and Construction Management aspect of these works.
