The Ritz-Carlton is a luxurious accommodation in the heart of Melbourne, Australia. It expresses Melbourne’s culture and history, with influences from Indigenous story and European heritage. The hotel offers stylish accommodation, spacious rooms, custom dining experiences and world-class meeting and event facilities.

Project Description

Programmed Electrical Technology was awarded the Audio Visual package for the procurement and installation of all AV equipment for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Melbourne through effective relationship. Our team worked efficiently and collaboratively with all stakeholders through proactive planning and coordination which was critical to the successful delivery of the 6-Star Hotel’s approved solution.

The team had to manage site numbers and the continual changes to the state laws incurred by the COVID19 pandemic for a large part of the project duration. The project led to an increase in the overall scope of works due to The Ritz-Carlton Hotel’s submission of multiple variations.

For this project Programmed Electrical Technologies were contracted to provide electrical and AV solutions throughout the hotel. We delivered updated display systems across six levels, including TV screens and sound systems as a part of the digital signage/display system and room booking panel requirements.

Programmed also provided AV solutions for the Hotel Function and Meeting Rooms, six spaces in total. These spaces included installation of control systems, audio systems and projector screens and projectors.

The Hotel Ballrooms were also fitted out with LED video walls and a control system for these panels. These panels were hidden within the Ballroom pilasters providing a clean finish to the space.

Overall, we tailored a cost-effective solution by negotiating with the suppliers to obtain revised pricing that generated material cost savings. The Hotel’s representatives have provided positive written feedback on the excellent outcome of this project that proved to have met the estimated expectations.

Project Solution

Throughout the design and approval phase of the project, PET went through countless coordination processes for all components of the AV System specification, from the ceiling services coordination due to the complex ceiling design, to the Ballroom NEC LED video walls, which were initially specified to be projectors with projector screens. The NEC LED Video walls provide the Ballroom with a clean finish to the AV system, while also showcasing modern

technology. Certain equipment had also become end of life. With this PET put together a departure schedule to advise the client that alternative equipment is available and that it will also meet the specification requirements.

The Hotel Project was delivered over a four year period, which during this period we seen the construction industry and Victoria as a whole go through the COVID19 pandemic. With this also came the collapse of one of Australia’s largest Builders, Probuild, who were managing the Hotel Project from the very beginning. The collapse of Probuild caused the project to close for a period of eight months until in was taken over by Multiplex. This saw all stakeholders involved come back together to finish and deliver one of Australia’s most luxury hotels.

All parties were satisfied with the outcomes of Programmed’s state-of-the-art Audio Visual solutions throughout the Hotel. The Programmed team worked collectively with all stakeholders and contributed to the project’s success in delivering the 6-Star-Hotel Audio Visual System. With this new and updated technology The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne maintains its high-quality appearance and service and will do for many more years to come.
